Leslie Cheung
Actor-turned-singer Leslie Cheung is Hong Kong’s answer to David Hasselhoff. Except that he has talent. Born in Hong Kong and educated there and in England, Cheung returned to his native country to star in a series of films and then recorded a début album, ‘The Wind Blows On’, that proved to be a massive hit. He’s yet to crack the incredibly lucrative Japanese market in a big way, but has a dedicated legion of followers who will ensure that these gigs, in one of Tokyo’s more cavernous venues, are a sell-out.

Moving on Up, From the US to Toronto
My bros spouse is Canadian.
Anyhow, her mother and father are still in Toronto and have just retired. I suspect that’s such a canny way to plan for retirement. Have a place to go that’s paid for and then sell the house which has appreciated all of these years and invest the takings so you have money to live on easily the remainder of your life. My bro and his spouse are on their way to Toronto this week to help them pack up the house and stand by to move.
That will be the most intense part for me making the choices to give away or thru many of the things that you’ve had around you for some time.
My bro helped find the Toronto Movers by calling different corporations and getting guesses from them. He used the web to go searching for keywords like Moving Toronto and Moving Service Toronto and came up with an inventory of about 12 corporations. Imagine how much tougher this would be without the internet! I don’t know how you would get an inventory of all the moving firms in another country in the 1st place and then you’ve got to make all those long-distance calls to get info. Instead, it was all just one or two clicks and a large amount of e-mails, and then a few chats using toll free numbers. What a difference technology can make! He made a decision on a company called Miracle Movers. He didn’t need to take the least expensive quote and felt ok with the representative who talked him thru the method.

Stones in His Pockets
This is the Australian première of this clever piece from the pen of the Irish playwright Marie Jones. Set in a County Kerry invaded by Hollywood, the roles of the local folk in a film are taken by Americans and directed by a disintegrating Englishman. All 13-odd roles are played by two actors – Philip Dodd and Greg Stone – who shift from spiky assistant director to a hyped up security guard to the insecure leading lady, all in the blink of an eye. Directed by Garry McDonald.

Morcheeba
UK trip hop combo Morcheeba hit Madrid with their peculiar, personal brand of music that combines elements as diverse as 1930s’ blues and contemporary hip hop. This complex fusion of styles makes the band’s sound difficult to classify but their 1995 début single ‘Trigger Hippie’ was a huge underground hit and the follow-up album ‘Who can You Trust’ was voted one of the best hundred dub albums. Since then there have been collaborations with artists as diverse as David Byrne, DJ Swamp, Spikey T and Burning Spear.
